Body
The body was taken back to bare metal by hand, all rust and rot was cut out and replaced with new metal. The body was sealed with epoxy, filled, primed, and then base coat and clear lacquer finishes applied, with being blocked by hand in between every stage. This work was undertaken in collaboration with Premier Paintwork and used the full Novel Classic Car Paint system.
To avoid the cavities being filled with either acid, from dipping or sand from grit blast, we chose to remove all paint and underseal by hand. This was made marginally easier, by using a rotisserie. The body was fully finished throughout, inside and out, top and bottom!
Seam sealing was carried out on all joints, however, my ‘attention to detail’ kicked in and couldn’t tolerate the original factory finish of daubing it everywhere, so each seam was masked and seam sealer applied to give this neater albeit ‘not original’ finish.
As with most facelift XJS’s the scuttle was completely rotten, a new scuttle was supplied by Premier Paintwork
